Zdanie względne dokleja informację o osobie lub rzeczy. Kluczowe pytanie: czy ta informacja jest niezbędna (bez przecinków), czy tylko dodatkowa (z przecinkami)?
Zasady
who / that — osoby. which / that — rzeczy. whose — czyj. where — miejsce. when — czas.
Informacja niezbędna — mówi, o którą osobę/rzecz chodzi. Można użyć „that”.
Informacja dodatkowa. NIE używamy „that” i nie pomijamy zaimka.
Gdy zaimek jest dopełnieniem (po nim stoi podmiot), można go opuścić.
Przykłady
W kontekście: Przedstawianie ludzi na konferencji
See the woman who's talking to the speaker? She's the designer whose work I showed you.
The one that made your logo?
Exactly. And the guy next to her, who I met in Barcelona, runs the studio where she works.
Is that the studio which won the award last year?
Yes. They've just opened a new office, which is great news for us.
Typowe błędy
Po przecinku nie używamy „that”.
Osoby → who (lub that).
Przynależność → whose.
